We’ve all been tagged on Instagram in photos that we don’t necessarily want to be tagged in, only for the image to appear on our Instagram profile for all our followers to see.

If that’s happened to you, we know exactly how you feel. Thankfully, there is a way to do that by adjusting your settings to approve Instagram-tagged photos before they appear in your profile.

In this guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of having complete control over the photos that you’re tagged in and whether you want them to go on your profile or not.

How to Adjust My Instagram Settings For Manual Tagged Post Approval

By default, when a user tags you in an image that they have uploaded to their Instagram profile, Instagram will automatically add that image to your profile since you’re tagged, and it’s relevant to you.

Whether you like it or not, that’s what will happen with every future image that you are tagged in, unless you adjust the settings and tell Instagram to wait for your approval before taking any further action.

To adjust your Instagram settings, so you have to manually approve tagged posts, follow these simple steps below:

  • Click on the three lines (also known as the hamburger button), and click on the settings wheel
  • Click on “Privacy and security”
  • Beneath “Photos of You”, click on “Add Manually”

This way, for every future post that you are tagged in, Instagram will notify you to go and check the post to see if you want it to be on your profile or not.

Hiding Existing Photos You’ve Been Tagged In

If you’ve only just managed to look up a solution to manually approve photos you’ve been tagged in, and have a bunch of old tagged photos you don’t want on your profile, this section is for you.

For Android and iOS devices, tap on the post you’re tagged in, tap on the three dots in the top right of the post, and then go on “Tag options”. Then, tap on “Hide from my profile.”

If you have a ton of photos you want to get rid of and don’t want to do this process picture by picture, tap on “Privacy” and then click on “Posts.” After that, tap on “Manually approve tags”, and tap “Edit” next to “Tagged posts.”

All you need to do now is select the posts you want to hide from your profile, tap the “Hide” button, and “Hide from profile.”

And there you have it. Now you will have complete control over every post you are tagged in and whether or not you want it to appear on your Instagram profile.
