That’s exactly what we will be taking a look at today, based on reports from the TikTok market in the United States.

Believe it or not, TikTok has already been around for a number of years. And while the platform is completely unrecognizable from what it was just a year ago, the user base on TikTok continues to rise exponentially.

This growth brings the question; what type of person uses TikTok?

But, before we take a closer look at TikTok’s user demographic, let’s first take a look at the numbers TikTok is currently getting from around the world. This will help us get a better idea of what we can expect.

How Many People Use TikTok?

In the first quarter of 2022, TikTok had about 750 million active users on the platform. This is largely due to the way the platform has been able to sustain its popularity even passed the initial phases of the pandemic when almost everyone started downloading it.

By 2025, it’s estimated that the number of active users on TikTok will grow to 1 billion. And while this is a big number, it still doesn’t reach the numbers of the most popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

For context, there are an estimated 2.93 billion active Facebook users right now. So, while TikTok’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, and the company has been able to sustain that growth, it still isn’t on the same level as Facebook and other larger social media companies.

With that said, who are these 750 million current users, and what type of people are they in terms of hobbies, interests, and others?

What Type of Person Uses TikTok?

This is one of the harder questions to answer as there are over 750 million people using the app on a regular basis, but there is data out there that paints a fairly clear picture. The best data sets come from the US TikTok market, so that’s what we’re going to use to answer this question.

In the US, the largest age group that uses TikTok is the 10-19-year-old age group, making up 32% of active users. The 20-29 age group is close behind, with around 29% of the users on the platform being in this age group. So, it’s pretty evident that most people on TikTok are between the ages of 10 and 29.

That said, there are still users in older age groups as the 30-39 age group makes up 16% of the users, the 40-49 taking 13.9% of the share, and the 50 and above age group takes just 7.1%

On the platform, around 60% of the users are female, with the majority of them coming from the 16-34 age group.

So, based on this data, the average type of person using TikTok is a female between the ages of 16-34. However, the data also shows that many different age groups use TikTok, which is why it can be so hard to answer this question.

Conclusion

When we take a look at a specific type of person that uses a platform like TikTok, coming to a solid conclusion can be quite hard, considering there are hundreds of millions of people using TikTok on a daily basis.

However, if we had to go for a specific type of person that uses TikTok the most, it would be women between the ages of 16 and 34.
